"Experiencing Italy"
What does it take to really get to know a foreign country? Well, two things come in mind: First, to see as much as possible, and second, to experience the local way of life, out of the tourist centres. And why not do it while volunteering?
That's what I thought, entering an Erasmus+ project in Anzola Dell'Emilia, a small village in Emilia-Romagna. My project initiated in the local library, which functions as the local cultural center. Cultural events, including concerts, film nights and local festivals, are often organized and promoted through the library. A very important aspect of the residents' everyday life, every event is an opportunity for the locals to go out and blow off some steam!
The second part of the project, included a summer school for children aged 7-11. Children from various backgrounds, who get to do every day interesting activities centered around this year's theme: Nature and its secrets! The main purpose being, that children through productive games learn more about the environment, the dangers that it faces, and also about people from other cultures who face the same problems.
Of course, the free-of-work weekends provide an opportunity to visit this beautiful country! Medieval buildings and castles are basically everywhere, deeply satisfying anyone who has a keen eye for this era. The center of the Renaissance, could not but offer a variety of wonderful and unique cities. What is more satisfying that volunteering and travelling at the same time? Venice, Florence, Verona, Bologna, Pisa, Milan are already under my belt and I'm aiming for more!
